The Empowerment Method?
The process that I guide people through weaves together self inquiry, self improvement, and profound acceptance. In this journey you learn how to actually listen to your body; to a wisdom that runs deeper than what you can intellectualize. Within this lies the keys to unlocking deep state shifts and the permission to embody versions of yourself that have laid dormant, waiting to be activated again after many years of forgetting… or perhaps for the first time ever.
These are the parts of self that know your worth, that know what you desire most, and know how to be in full empowerment.
WHEN YOU DISCONNECT FROM PAIN, YOU DISCONNECT FROM PLEASURE
The biggest thing I see standing between people and their fullest potential in today’s world is the systemic disconnection from our body in order to meet societies expectations.
Pretending to be less sensitive or tuning out stress levels to keep climbing the work ladder, ignoring your passions to be more rational,or falling into unhealthy habits because they’re more easily accessible- we could all name a dozen reasons why numbing or tuning out is the easier path.
The problem is: it’s hard to close the door to only the ‘bad’. More often, the numbing and disconnect is generalized.
Numbing out pain, discomfort, and anger means not feeling the full extent of your discernment between right and wrong, or where your boundaries are.
Numbing out grief, shame, and shadow means not feeling the full extent of your joy, passion, and love.
Numbing out the parts of yourself you’ve deemed too much or not enough means not feeling the extent of knowing your wholeness and connection to the world around you.
Disconnection may feel like the less vulnerable path.
But the truth is- it holds you back from living your fullest potential.
Between the difficulty of deciding to start and the huge task of figuring out how to start, most people never do.
And who can blame them?
After spending years closing off from the discomfort of facing your deepest felt truths, the process of peeling off layers of disconnection and finally facing what’s been hiding in the dark can feel daunting at best.
ARE YOU CHOOSING THE PATH BECAUSE IT’S EASY, OR BECAUSE IT’S RIGHT?
Some common signs of disembodiment that I’ve encountered are:
Feeling fear of taking risks or leaving the comfort zone, which prevents choosing a new way of being
Having a self-care routine that mostly looks like substances (weed or alcohol), netflix binges, or comfort eating
Trying endlessly to think your way to healing, but limiting beliefs, internalized stories, triggers, or learned patterns continue to interfere with the process
Struggling with dedication, consistency, or a lack of deeper purpose
Getting caught in the trap of external prioritization, like what other people might think, instead of internal prioritization, like feeling good.
EMBODIMENT IS AN APPROACH, NOT A SPECIFIC DISCIPLINE
When I stopped doing competitive powerlifting and crossfit at 19, I quickly discovered that I had loads of body awareness… and my connection to what my body was saying to me had been all but severed. So I began a journey of reconnection.
I tried yoga, and injured myself multiple times, too proud to listen to my body telling me to do a modified version.
I tried seated meditation, and found the racing thoughts in my head too much to cut through.
I tried traditional dance classes, and more often than not found myself in tears with the frustration of learning choreography.
I tried ecstatic dance, and found so much freedom that I didn’t experience any growth in my abilities or have structure to learn from what my body was saying.
How are you practicing becoming the person you want to become?
When you think of intuitive movement or improvisational dancing, do you think of casting off all bowlines and setting off into the wide unknown ocean of movement? Turning on music and hoping that movement naturally finds you? Releasing all inhibitions and trusting that your body will just naturally know how to dance?
Sometimes it works.
Often it leads to intimidation, avoidance, frustration, and scattered results.
The containers and frameworks within intuitive movement have the potential to invite in the embodiment of…
Noticing what options are available, and what a solid “yes” or “no” feels like in your body- allowing you to believe your intuition more often and make big decisions with more clarity
Challenging yourself in a safe container, so you can get really comfortable with stepping outside of your comfort zone, taking big risks, and facing the potential of failure confidently
Becoming more attuned to the currents of your emotions, identifying and defining them, and communicating them in a healthy way to find a new level of emotional intelligence and intimacy within your relationships
Building a deeper relationship with pleasure, so you can feel it more fully, with less guilt or shame and allow it to guide you towards what actually lights your soul on fire
Releasing tension, finding peace, and allowing the wisdom of the body to do what it’s naturally inclined to do: HEAL.
Building trust in yourself, your body, your truth, and your desires, so you can finally feel at home in your existence and become an active participant in your destiny
